Controlling Japanese Knotweed in Hackney

Using a guaranteed root barrier membrane, HIS last month reinstated a garden patio in Hackney Road, East London.

The technique involved lifting garden paving stones which had been made unusable by Japanese Knotweed, removal of the worst of the rhizomes, digging a slit trench half a metre down and covering the whole patio area with a 1mm thick HDPE root barrier membrane.

This membrane was sealed to the sides of the excavation to a depth of 500 mm. Any rhizome growth will now be contained under the membrane.

The paving stones were then re-laid and the whole area made safe and good.
